As one ages the skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic.  Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process.  Lines and creases form in your skin because of many factors such as heredity, smoking, and exposure to sun.  If wrinkles bother you there are many ways to treat them - topical skin care regimens, as well as chemical peels, lasers, dermal fillers and Botox®.

Purified Botulinum toxin A, known better in households everywhere as Botox® Cosmetic, is a fantastic solution to  a very common symptom of aging that affect us all.  As one ages, repeated facial muscular movements can contribute to wrinkles such as frown lines and crows feet.  Botox erases these types of wrinkles and one’s skin is left smooth and relaxed from its effects.

DermalFillers
Filler treatments are increasing in popularity because of the natural, youthful appearance they can provide without having to undergo surgery.  In most instances, one can schedule a simple outpatient procedure, generally lasting 15-30 minutes, for the end of their work day and return to work the next day without any down time.  Filler treatments are simple outpatient procedures performed under local anesthesia.  One or more injection points are selected depending on the treatment area and the severity of volume loss and wrinkling.

At Frederick Dermatology Associates, the doctors use fillers that are FDA approved and are hyaluronic based (Restylane® Juvederm ®) and calcium hydroxylapatite based (Radiesse®).

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within your skin, that when injected volumizes, softens, and hydrates the skin. In addition to these benefits, the injectable gels may stimulate new collagen formation.  These fillers have been used for correction of wrinkles, creases, and other signs of aging in order to restore a more youthful appearance.  These fillers can also be used for lip enhancement, correction of some facial scars, and replacement of soft tissue volume loss that occurs with age.  In general, one can expect results lasting a minimum of six months.

Like the hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse is an injectable filler used for the correction of wrinkles, folds, and volume loss, especially around the nose and the mouth.  Clinical results of Radiesse typically last a year or longer.
